My name is Josh Osborne, and I am an aspiring bladesmith with a profound passion for the craft. My journey in metal fabrication began at a young age, driven by an early interest in knife making. In 2018, I established Rogue Forge, initially working as a blacksmith, with the long-term vision of mastering the art of bladesmithing. The technical skills and insights I developed through blacksmithing have been instrumental in deepening my understanding of steel manipulation and the artistry it requires.
After several years dedicated to research, skill refinement, and acquiring the specialized tools necessary for bladesmithing, I made a pivotal transition in May 2021, moving from blacksmithing to bladesmithing full-time. This progression reflects not only my commitment to the craft but also my dedication to continuous growth and excellence in this field. I am excited to pursue this journey and look forward to many more years of refining my skills and contributing to the world of bladesmithing.
Passing my performance test part for ABS-Journeyman smith
I am currently rated as an Apprentice in the American Bladesmith Society (ABS). In July 2024, I successfully passed my first major milestone by completing the performance test, marking significant progress toward earning my Journeyman Smith (JS) certification. This journey has been both exciting and educational, and I look forward to continuing to grow and achieve the next level in my bladesmithing career.
Best fighting knife
In April 2024, I had the privilege of attending the Oregon Knife Collectors Association (OKCA) show in Eugene, Oregon. As part of the event, I entered several of my knives into different categories in the knifemakers' competition. I was honored to take home the 1st place award in the Best Fighting Knife category.
The winning piece was a stunning 120-layer jacketed Cu-Mai (copper) knife, featuring a beautifully crafted handle made from blue-dyed oak and African blackwood. This achievement was a proud moment in my journey as a bladesmith and a testament to the passion and dedication I put into my craft.
